A Short History of The Inquisition. Intolerance as the tool of Power.
intolerance as the tool of power

A Livre Ouvert
From the 29th to the 31st of October 1998 was held in Rome a surprising meeting which eluded media attention. Invited by Pope John Paul II, about thirty international historians, all specialists of the Inquisition - most of whom were highly critical towards it - convened in the Vatican around Cardinal Echegaray and several theologians. These theologians expounded the results of their research and during the debate which followed, it became clear that among the theologians, especially those of Dominican obedience, there was a trend in favour of the 'repentance' of the Church, a repentance which aimed, in the worlds of the Pope, at 'a cleansing of memory' on the occasion of the Jubilee Year 2000.
